Carers UK provides information for carers in the UK including news, advice about employment and a forum to share your experiences with others.
youreable.com provides advice and guidance on assistive technology and services for people with a disability; living with a disability; news with a disability bias and community forum.
RADAR - the Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation is a national organisation run by and working for disabled people that fast tracks your opinions and concerns to policy makers in Westminster and Whitehall. They also provide a key ("The National Key Scheme") which will provide access to some 7000 toilets around the country which have facilities for disabled users; these are kept locked in order to minimise vandalism. A key can be obtained direct from RADAR, and may also be available from your local Council offices.
Carer's Allowance is a DirectGov web site with advice, guidance and a facility to apply on-line for allowances for people with disabilities and those who care for them.
Dial UK is a national organisation for a network of approximately 130 local disability information and advice services run by and for disabled people.
Carers Bucks and Carers Berks are Network Members of the Princess Royal Trust for Carers, which is the largest provider of comprehensive carers support services in the UK. Carers Bucks is based in Aylesbury and can be contacted by phone on 01296 392711. Carers Berks is based in Reading and can be contacted by phone on 0118 950 3941.
Help the Hospices provides information about hospices including locations, services offered, contact details and catchment areas.
Healthtalkonline is a relatively new website that lets you share other people's experiences of a wide range of conditions, including MND. It draws on a research study which involved interviews with people with MND and their carers. Visitors to the site will be able to see and listen to people talking about topics such as their immediate reactions to the diagnosis; how they manage daily life; the impact on their family; how they made decisions about equipment, home adaptations, or interventions such as feeding tubes and ventilation; and their philosophy and attitude to life. The information on Healthtalkonline is based on qualitative research into patient experiences, led by experts at the University of Oxford. These personal stories of health and illness will enable patients, families and healthcare professionals to benefit from the experiences of others.
The Cinema Exhibitors' Association Card will entitle you to one free ticket for a person accompanying you to the cinema; to apply for the card you must be in receipt of the Disability Allowance or Attendance Allowance.
The DirectGov website enables you to find information about Blue Badge parking permits.
The Disabled Holiday Directory and Accessatlast.com are organisations that provide assistance in finding holiday accommodation for people with disabilities.
ITCH (Information Technology Can Help) offers computer assistance to individuals with disabilities by providing volunteers who will visit disabled people in their homes and at other locations such as day centres.
REMAP is a national charitable organisation engaged in the design and provision of specialised technical aids for disabled people.
DisabledGear.com is a relatively new web site where you can find information about new products for disabled people, and can buy and sell second-hand equipment.
AbilityNet is a national charity helping disabled adults and children use computers and the internet by adapting and adjusting their technology.
Motability is a national charity that supervises the Government's Motability Scheme that is designed to help disabled people meet the cost of having a car, powered wheelchair or scooter, through contract hire or hire purchase schemes.
Vitalise is a national charity providing short breaks (respite care) and other services for people with physical disabilities, visually impaired people, and carers.
The Disabled Living Foundation is a national charity that provides free, impartial advice about all types of daily living equipment and mobility products for disabled adults and children, older people, their carers and families.
The Buckinghamshire Disability Service (BuDS) is an independent Buckinghamshire-based charity run by disabled people and carers for disabled people and carers. It aims to tackle issues which matter to disabled people and to provide the services which disabled people and carers most need.
